Body Squabbles

Button

I'm sick of the term "belly button". It's not a button! It's a solemn scar. Your last link to the womb. An existential signpost. Try pressing this so-called "button" and see what happens. Nothing! See?!

Size

I use my body as a measuring tool. I am huge. I am tiny. The size of all things relative to me.

Plague

The monastery was infected with plague and was quarantined appropriately. I developed heavy pus-filled buboes like all the other monks. But I drew funny faces on mine so as to try and take steps towards empathising with them. They are, after all, another manifestation of god's creation, of nature, of love.

Parasites

You don't want a tapeworm because you don't like to think of your body as a home for other animals. You don't want scabies because you don't like to think about your body beneath the skin. You don't want headlice because you don't like to think of your body as food. You like to think of your body as a single unit, but really it is an ecosystem.

Pots

You are clay and you were formed from the earth. You passed through the water, filling the space inside. And as the planet travels around a giant kiln, our sun, you slosh about on the surface trying not to lose your balance.

Medal

You don't wear a medal between your shoulder blades. You would certainly never wear it on your ankle. It would be ludicrous to wear it on your ear. You wear a medal on the left hand side of your chest. That's where it goes. It just does.

Pundit

Every time I piss I'm a gardener. Every time I shit I'm a sculptor. When I pick my nose I'm blogging.Every time I puke I'm a political pundit.

Crisps

Sitting on a bench eating crisps, watching the bald trees sway slightly in the breeze. When I pay attention I can feel the blood beating around my body. Potatoes grown in the earth and salt from the sea. Getting smaller and smaller and being carried around my inner networks.

Keyholes

Picking a lock is easy when you use the tools at your disposal. A crooked nose is perfect. A bent or double-jointed finger will also do the job. Work with your limitations and use your imagination. A dextrous tongue is a huge asset when used with verve and creativity. But however many locks you pick, there will always be more keyholes. Be prepared for lifelong expolration.
